LAC Harmon was killed flying Cessna Crane #7996. He was engaged in solo routine night circuits when the aircraft dived into the ground during the latter part of downwind leg, three miles west of the aerodrome at Calgary. Lancaster aircraft #ME 618 was attacked from below and set on fire by a German ME-110 night fighter aircraft, flown by German Lt Seuss, during a raid against Nuremberg, Germany. P/O N. Baker and Sgt D.V. McIntyre were also killed. Three of the crew, not Canadians, missing believed killed. Two Canadians, WOs J.D. Robertson and M.G. McGreer, were taken Prisoners of War. This crew were on their sixth operation and this was one of 108 Allied aircraft lost this night. Harper died in the Galle Hospital, Ceylon as the result of injuries sustained in a car accident at Koggala, Ceylon. Corporal Harper is buried in the Liveramentu Cemetery, Columba, Ceylon.

HARPER, ROBERT HOWARD S/L(P) 41177 D.F.C. – Royal Air Force. From Bassano, Alberta. Killed Dec 2/44 age 24. #206 Squadron (Nihil Nos Effugit). Liberator aircraft failed to return from a radar exercise off Bell Rock, Scotland. WO F.R. Hall, F/O S. Tulloch, and eight of the crew, not Canadians, were also killed. The aircraft was seen to catch fire in the air and crash in the sea four miles from Fife Ness, Scotland, an air-sea search was carried out to no avail. In 1940 -1941 S/L Harper completed over thirty operations on Anson aircraft with #206 Squadron. Mosquito aircraft #NS 855 was shot down 10 miles south-east of the target at Lantenot, France. The RAF navigator, F/O T.H. Rees, was also killed. Flight Lieutenant Pilot Harper is buried in the Communal Cemetery, St. Germain, Haute- Saone, France.

HARRELL, WILLIAM JESSUP FS(P) R83419. From Eastman, Georgia, U.S.A. Killed in Action Jun 30/42 age 21. #405 City of Vancouver Squadron (Ducimus), Pathfinder Force. Halifax aircraft #W 1113 went down near Noordwolde during a night operation against Bremen, Germany. Sgt W.J. Dickinson, FSs J.W. Bell, P.P. Oneson, FSs R.T. Adams (RAF), WOs W.P. Beare (RAF), A. Wellington aircraft #X 3723 was carrying 4,250 lbs. of bombs when it was shot down in the sea off Gallanstoog, Holland. P/C. F.R. Donnison, FSs E.N. Costigan, H.A. MacDonald, and J.T. Mosquito aircraft #HJ 871 was engaged in advanced dual exercises when it crashed one quarter of a mile south-east of Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia. F/O J.C. Bruce D.F.C. (RAF) was also killed. HARRIS, EDWARD JAMES SGT(P) R128563. From Haney, British Columbia. Killed Dec 9/42 age 20. #2 Flying Instructor School, Vulcan, Alberta. Sgts Harris and R.A. Clark (RAF) were killed in Cornell aircraft #FH 748. They struck a tree during a low-flying exercise and crashed between Vulcan and Pincher Creek, Alberta. Sergeant Pilot Harris is buried in the Maple Ridge Cemetery at Haney, British Columbia.

HARRIS, EMERSON PHILIP LAC(WAG) R115946 – under training. From Speers, Saskatchewan. Killed Mar 23/42 age 22. #5 Bombing and Gunnery School, Dafoe, Saskatchewan. Fairey Battle aircraft #2069 and #1892 collided in mid-air six miles south-east of Dafoe during a scheduled gunnery exercise. FS H. Naoum and LAC Harris were killed in #2069. LACs D.F. Hood and G.G. They were on a routine navigation exercise when they crashed into some trees at Conway, Prince Edward Island. Sergeant Pilot Harris is buried in the Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal, Quebec.

Halifax aircraft #RG 475 was returning from the target and was shot down by our own Coastal Defence guns. The aircraft crashed north of Walton on the Naze, Essex, England. P/Os J.D. Ringrose, G.M. Boston aircraft lost over enemy territory. The following report was provided by Ex WO J.C. Rice of Oshawa, Ontario who was a WOAG on the operation, We were hit by machine gun fire as we made a low-level attack on an enemy aerodrome and the starboard engine was set on fire. Two enemy FW190 fighter aircraft rode us into the deck and we crashed in a wheat field near St. Omer. Both the Welsh navigator and S/L Hawkins died in hospital, the Irish WOAG was an Evader and made it back to England, and I was taken Prisoner of War. S/L Hawkins made a good crash landing and was responsible for my survival.” S/L Hawkins had flown Gladiator aircraft with #22 Squadron in the Middle East during the early part of the War. Squadron Leader Pilot Hawkins is buried at St. Omer, France.

FL 994 made a safe crash landing on the airfield but BZ 746 flew into the ground and crashed. Seven RAF airmen; Sgts J.R. Birch, C. Jackson, F/O5 L.A. Birkett, G.D. Cribbes, B.W. Hutchings, A.I.
