The Conspicuous Gallantry Medal

(Flying)

Awarded to WO's, NCOs, and non-commissioned members of the Air Forces and Military for acts of conspicuous gallantry whilst flying in active operations against the enemy.

[The Conspicuous Gallantry Medal.] Bars: For additional acts of bravery (none to Canadians).

Obverse:

Description: Circular, 1.42 inches, silver. (Navy and Air Force medals identical).

Reverse: Inscription in 3 lines: FOR / CONSPICUOUS / GALLANTRY within a wreath of laurel and surmounted by a crown.

Mounting: Straight suspender with single toe claw with inward scrolls on rim.

Ribbon: 1 1/4 inches; Light Blue with Dark Blue (3/8") edges.

Example

Flt. Sgt. Kenneth Brown, C.G.M. -- an RCAF pilot who served with 617 Squadron (Dambusters); he piloted the 2nd Lancaster to bomb the Sorpe Dam making 10 runs at the dam to ensure a hit (16 May 1943).
