428 Wing – Peterborough, Ontario. At one of the local malls, Lansdowne Place, a campaign known as “Morale by Mail” takes place every November. The 2009 campaign was the third annual campaign. Veterans attend in strength, to encourage shoppers to fill in a Christmas card, provided by the Mall, which is then mailed to Canadian Forces personnel serving overseas. Thousands of cards are mailed each year and placed on the table where the military personnel take their Christmas meal. More than half of the cadre of veterans, this year, was represented by members of 428 Wing – a very proud show of support from the Air Force Association of Canada in Peterborough. The 433 Wing Liaison Officer, Captain Craig Waldick, presented the collection to the Tim Horton’s representative, Mr. Colin Culligan. Read more at Canada’s air force web-site here.
While not a Wing-project, the Kinsmen local to Kitchener-Waterloo have found a most respectable way to honour our soldiers who have fallen in Afghanistan. Visit their web-site here to learn more. Wings may be interested in this kind of project, especially where Afghanistan losses have been felt acutely, in their community.
